The Arena serves as a space for teaching, presentation and communication. It hosts short, entertaining science talks covering a specific topic in detail. The talks are open to everyone and are intended to appeal to a broad audience. The Arena also serves as a venue for children’s events, like ‘Animal Tales’.
All events are freely accessible to the public. If there is no event taking place in the Arena, visitors are welcome to come in and relax on the comfortable wooden steps, perhaps to discuss the Exhibition.
The Studio consolidates the profile of the Natural History Museum Bern as a place for learning, teaching and continuing education, not least for schools and teachers. Classes can use the space to work on specific topics and questions together with their teachers. True to its ethos of ‘helping people to help themselves’, the museum offers a wide range of teaching materials. Alongside its services for schools, the Studio is also open to hosting externally organised activities, including cultural projects, events, experiments and creative workshops – you name it.
Once a month, it becomes the ‘Open Studio’, where the space is open to children aged eight and over and to adults for a range of activities geared towards scientific discovery. During these sessions, activities are supervised and visitors are free to create, discover, experiment, experience their own eureka moments and pass on their own knowledge. Through its three spaces, the Nature Lab addresses all kinds of connections and seeks to strengthen and promote relationships. The Exhibition, Arena and Studio allow for a new kind of partnership between the museum and visitors, teachers and school classes, with the aim of inspiring new events and collaborations. Together, we’re building the museum of the future!
